The bike belonged to a close friend of mine, Scott. We rode together and would cross paths socially several times a week. At 71,000 miles the engine died and he didn’t have the means to replace or rebuild it so he abandoned the bike and financed a new Triumph instead with a small deposit.

A few months later he rode out on one of our favorite canyon roads, sat under a tree looking out across the beautiful Santa Monica mountains and took his own life. I had seen him the day before. His beer was still in my fridge. I, along with his two daughters, friends and family were devastated.

I poured my grief into rebuilding the abandoned Honda to as close to perfection as I could manage. It rides like a dream and is fast enough to penetrate the horizon. Exactly as Scott would like it.

Bike:
2015 Honda CBR1000RR

Engine:
Replacement engine with 5k miles. K&N air and oil filters. Power commander V and full Yoshimura exhaust. Tuned to 151hp at the rear wheel.

Brakes:
Brembo full floating rotors at the front. Superbike unlimited lightweight rear rotor. Brembo pads, front and rear.

Bodywork:
Replacement bodywork from Monster Fairings. Carbon fibre chain guard, front mudguard and rear hugger.

Suspension:
Ohlins suspension, front and rear.

Wheels and tires:
OZ forged aluminum wheels, color-coded to match the Repsol bodywork. Dunlop Q3+ tires.

Other modifications:
Lightech levers, fuel filler cap and GP shift rear-sets. Shorai lithium ion battery. Titanium nuts and bolts for rotors, sprockets, etc. 520 superlite sprocket conversion. DID ERV7 lightweight race chain. Woodcraft engine protection.
