It’s ever tempting with most toys — bikes, guitars, cars, cameras, watches, you name it — to be looking for what might be better than what you have, or what you might want to add to your collection next.

But there’s a particular contentment and pleasure from saying “I’m going to stick with this one.” It shifts your attention from constantly thinking about what else exists out there, to making the most of what you have, and that’s exactly what I’m doing with my Suzuki SV650S.

It’s a forever bike, I love working on it as much as I love riding it, and with my ability and talent I’ll never reach its limits. Upgrading it piece by piece has given me an opportunity to learn a lot as I go.

I’ve just completed my fourth major phase of work on the bike which has reduced the wet weight to 150kgs. Here are the mods:
